ABOUT

Amelia Pointin designed and built River Valley House.  A four year project during which she lived in safari tents on site.  She spent a full year studying the wind patterns and logging the days when the weather conditions favoured a view of Mt Kenya to the East or the Aberdare Mountains to the West before making a final decision on where to place the main house. During that first year, the foundations for the landscaping were laid and constructed the 20m swimming pool and pool house.   Over the following three years, the main build was completed.

Your safari base

River Valley House is a unique property in Central Kenya.  We welcome all.   As you enter down the driveway in a vehicle you will see and smell acres of culinary herbs growing around the property.  These are farmed here for export to UK and Middle East.

The main house has five en-suite bedrooms. The Master has a huge picture window of laminated glass facing Mt Kenya at the foot of the raised, iron framed bed.  A bedside switch operates an electric roller blind; so every morning's sunrise can be witnessed over Mt Kenya.  The principal guest room benefits from a semi-circular balcony from where in the morning you can watch the sun rise over Mt Kenya on the left and first light striking the Aberdares to the right.    The other four guest rooms are equally well appointed, each with differing views of the farm, mountains and river valley.  The west wing offers an additional two en suite rooms for extra guests or pilots and guides.  In total it sleeps, ten people.

Lunch and dinner can be served at the mahogany table in the formal dining room which seats 12 and also has a fireplace in the event of a chilly evening.  After dinner, relax back in the drawing room or play a frame of snooker or billiards on the full-size table in the west wing. There is also a media room for televisual entertainment with flush mounted flat screen Tv, electric drop-down screen, HD LCD projector and blue-ray / DVD home cinema system with 5.1 surround sound..

In the morning, whether you prefer a lie in or to be up early, you will find a large focal point kitchen; and onto the very spacious morning room facing Mt Kenya where your breakfast awaits.

Over breakfast, make a plan for the day; perhaps spend the time at the house, make the most of the swimming pool, pétanque terrain, table tennis in the pool house, an exercise in the gym, or massage, reflexology or beauty treatment with a local beautician followed by a healthy lunch.  We can also arrange a private yoga or pilates teacher to come to the house and set up a lesson by the pool.
